Kitchen Cosmos
Working with waste from the kitchen sink on photographic black and white paper to make 'lumen' prints. When exposed to daylight over a number of hours wonderful pinks emerge. If they are fixed photographically the pinks disappear, so I keep them in the dark and scan them to dry to preserve the colours. The resulting prints are exhibited as A4 giclee Hahnemule Bamboo works.
Kitchen Cosmos 1
Shown in Alchemical (2023), at Gallery 475 in Fulham, London, an ArtCan show curated by Catherine Sweet.
I exhibited both the original, unfixed lumen print (right) together with Kitchen Cosmos 1 (left) in this show. Kitchen Cosmos 1 highlighted the alchemical process of the domestic sink waste chemically interacting with the silver nitrate in the black and white paper. I also showed the original unfixed lumen print in Alchemical, which changed over the duration of the exhibition as the black and white paper was exposed to daylight.
