Shifting Perspectives
Shifting Perspectives 1 (Inverted River Lea)
Photographic Print on Hahnemühle Bamboo, 2023
297 mm x 210 mm Edition of 30 & 1 A/P I am making Shifting Perspectives works whilst thinking about the power of Impressionist landscape paintings. These are almost chocolate box clichés in their ubiquity on gifts and cards now, but were of course revolutionary at the time in capturing in paint the atmosphere of fleeting feelings of nature, ‘snapshots’, focusing on light, colour and movement for the first time. The work also references recent psychological research findings which indicate when we have a memory, we don’t retrieve it fully-formed, we create something new and ‘shift perspective’. The work is an inverted photograph of the River Lea. |
